Furthermore, the oppression of the local authorities and tribal leaders, who were paid by the government for their loyalty, was another dominant cause. However, instead of improving that situation, Iraqi authorities, who were supported by the British forces and a number of Kurdish tribal fighters, attacked most of the villages of the region with heavy weapons and bombardment. Consequently, they could end the Kurdish uprising, which was followed by harsh conditions on the civilians, of which thousands fled toward mountainous areas and crossed Iranian borders, where half of them became victims of wars and diseases.</p> ER -
