Analysis of the impact of foreign direct investment on the housing sector in the Kurdistan Region - Iraq for the period 2007-2021

Foreign direct investment is one of the important factors that help to achieve economic growth for all countries of all kinds, developed and developing, by taking advantage of the security and political stability witnessed by the region compared to the conditions of the rest of Iraq and exploiting its openness to the outside world to attract foreign capital, where the region was suffering from a shortage of financial resources, after the issuance of the Investment Law in 2006 in which the process of investment in economic sectors, especially the housing sector was carried out significantly. The importance of the research represents that foreign direct investment is one of the most important sources of external financing at the moment and this importance is highlighted by the following: (The great role that foreign investments can play in the development of the residential sector, and the transfer of capital, technology and expertise to the host countries). However, the problem of research enables that the Kurdistan Region of Iraq suffers from a lack of funds, it needs sources of funding, and foreign direct investment is a source of funding, especially in the field of housing sector.
This research aims to find out the impact of foreign direct investment on the residential sector in the region for the period (2007-2021), and to achieve this goal the long-term relationship between the following variables was analyzed: the volume of demand for housing as a dependent variable, foreign direct investment and local investment, government support for land area, population, and imaginary variable as independent variables. The researcher relied on the analytical descriptive approach through data analysis in addition to the standard quantitative approach using the ARDL model. The research reached a number of conclusions, perhaps the most prominent of which was the standard results of the long-term relationship showed that the independent variable (foreign direct investment) is significant in the long term and has a moral direct effect, while the independent variable (local investment) was significant in the long term and has a moral opposite effect, and the independent variable (government support for land area (dunams)) is moral in the long term and has a moral direct impact during that period (2007-2021), and finally the research came up with a number of necessary proposals To increase the role of foreign direct investment in various sectors in the Kurdistan Region.
