The Impact of the Phonology of the Kurdish Language onearning the English Language Nafal Salih Islam

This study is an attempt to find the extent of the impact of the first language, which is the Kurdish language, on learning the second language, which is English, in the field of phononogy. It is worth mentioning that this study tries to show the similar and the discrepant aspects in the two languages: English and Kurdish and to shed light on the basic factors that count as obstacles in learning the second language which is English. In learning the second language, the learner depends on four skills which are: listening, speaking, reading and writing and the base for these skills is pnonology; it plays a seminal role in interpreting these skills. In learning these skills, the learner takes his first steps. This method is the most important one in revealing the similarities and the differences between the two languages, the way of analyzing the important features of the two languages: English and Kurdish at the phonological level.
