Abstract

The Chinese Belt and Road Initiative is the largest international investment project in infrastructure in the twenty-first century, with about 72 countries from different continents currently participating in it, constituting about half of the world's population and a third of the GDP in it.  And the road towards the countries of the Middle East and Europe, and the research tried to prove this importance by conducting some approaches and preliminary simulation models for the gains that could be obtained if this strategy was adopted within the national frameworks for reconstruction and sustainable development. The research reached important conclusions, including that Iraq can to be an influential country in the initiative. If a development strategy for its infrastructure is adopted based on openness and the development and extension of transportation routes with all the neighboring countries, then the gains achieved could be greater, especially with the possibility of including the sea port within the road towards the Mediterranean and Europe, as the research concluded.  The oil-for-reconstruction agreement between Iraq and China could represent a basis for developing Iraq’s role in the Chinese initiative.
