The effect of the detailed Arab rules of origin that are not agreed upon for agricultural commodities

The member countries of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area have agreed to the general rules of origin by 40% of the Arab origin until the necessary steps have been taken to implement a final detailed agreement and replace them with the general rules currently in place for trade under the BAFTA after a transitional period left to the Economic and Social Council, In order to activate the Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA), member states have gone a long way in agreeing on the detailed rules of origin. A number of the items listed in List 2, which include 17 commodity items for industrial goods, (3) agricultural commodities, which include 8 commodity items
The study included several axes on an analytical framework on the listed commodities, 3 and reached a set of conclusions that rules of origin are very important for agricultural products and derivatives, and that the interest of the Arab countries requires that rules of origin be viewed from a broader perspective in terms of controlling flows And the importance of agreeing on the detailed Arab rules of origin for the success of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area, and benefiting from the elimination of customs duties, and where The strictness in the field of rules of origin affects the progress in the implementation of projects of Arab economic integration, and impede the entry of Arab exports to the member countries of the Greater Arab Free Trade Area.
The study found that Arab trade in the items of the list (3) is limited to the world trade in these items. The Arab trade in the items of the list 3 represents only 2.7% of the total inter-Arab trade for the period 2010 to 2015 , And that the Arab countries that adopt the application of the rule obtained in full to the goods listed in (3) are the countries that apply high tariffs on these goods; because they have deeper domestic industries and seeks to protect them.
